If concussion is suspected by player, parent, or coach – athlete must discontinue participation

in the area.
Common concussion signs/symptoms include:
o After a hit: athlete lays motionless, grabs head/helmet, stumbles or staggers
o Headache or head pressure
o Dizziness
o Nausea
o Sensitivity to light and/or noise
o Fatigue/feeling slow or sluggish
o Trouble concentrating or remembering
o Flat emotions or extreme emotions/irritability
o Trouble sleeping or sleeping more than usual
If any of these symptoms present, call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room
(not urgent care):
o Seizure
o Severe, worsening headache
o Unsteady/unstable gait (stumbling)
o Confusion/disorientation
o Slurred speech
o Blood or clear fluid coming from ears/nose
o Vomiting
o Large pupils not responding to light
1. Reach out to the AT for evaluation and guidance.
2. Clearance from a physician must be presented to Athletic Trainer and Coaches prior to
returning to practice and games. Highly recommend this physician be a qualified sports
concussions specialist or your pediatrician (we will not accept clearances from chiropractors, urgent care or ER).
3. Players must complete a gradual (typically 5 day) return-to-play progression supervised by an
athletic trainer or physical therapist before returning to contact practice and games.
